Tarragona city

Our house is located in a suburb of Tarragona, a fifteen minute walk from the beautiful old town. Tarragona is the capital of the province and as a large coastal town has managed to retain its authentic character. Enjoy the many squares and terraces in the old town (Part Alta), dreaming away at the view from the 'Balcón del Mediterráneo'. stroll on the Rambla Nova, watch the boats from the port of the Serrallo, and much more.

Plaza de la Fonta

The largest square of Tarragona, full of terraces, restaurants and bars and adjacent to the town hall of Tarragona. Two thousand years ago, the Romans held their horse races here and traces of this are still present.

Carrer Major

The street in the old town that leads to the Cathedral with nice shops.

Plaza del Forum

Many terraces, bars, wine tasting rooms on the Plaza del Forum square with a part of the two-thousand-year Roman wall in the middle of the square as an eye-catcher

Rambla Nova

Wonderful walking and strolling, comparable to the Rambla in Barcelona. This Rambla is about 1.8 kilometers long and 50 meters wide, with the occasional markets such as during Christmas.

Balcón del Mediterráneo

Located at the top of Rambla Nova, 40 meters above the sea, this magnificent "balcony" offers a wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea, the port of Tarragona, the beach Platja del Miracle and the ancient Roman amphitheatre. According to legend, touching the unique railing ("tocar ferro") brings good luck.

Plaza Corsini

Lovely square next to the Mercado Central with terraces, regular live music on the street and a weekly market.

Amphitheater

The crown jewel of the Roman legacy is the amphitheater in the old town, right next to the sea. In the associated park is a beautiful terrace to have a drink or eat.

Plaza del Rey

Nice square, in the middle of the Roman remains, to eat delicious paella (e.g. at restaurant Llagut) or to drink a Vermut (or something else)

The cathedral

Tarragona's cathedral is a landmark in the old town (Part Alta), as are the square in front of it and the steps leading up to it.

Part Alta

During parties and weekends there is always a lot of fun in the old town.

Serallo port

Tarragona has one of the largest ports in Spain, but by far the most beautiful part is the Serallo with many terraces, restaurants and fountains.

Plaza de Els Sedassos

In the evening the terraces are set up here in Plaza Els Sedassos and many younger people especially come here to meet.

Mercado Central

The Mercado Central is the central market in Tarragona, housed in a striking and modernist building from 1915. There are 69 food stalls inside. The interior has cast iron columns, creating more light and space. The market overlooks Plaza Corsini and Calle Cristòfor Colom.

Former bullfighting arena

Bullfighting has been banned in Catalonia since 2012, which is why the former bullfighting arena has been converted into a concert hall.

Shopping

In addition to the many smaller shops, there are also larger shopping centers in the city such as El Corte Inglés and Parc Central.
Just outside the town there is a large hypermarket of Carrefour and other chains.

Tienda de "toda la vida"

Casa Corderet is an old Cereria founded in 1751 on Calle Merecería 17. Located in the old town (Part Alta). It is not only the oldest store in the city, but also in the Tarragona region and the second in Catalonia.
It is a well-preserved shop, still with the original furniture and decoration, including ceiling paintings.
